Community Options carries out charitable activities and programs that offer children an enriching experience, positively impacting lifelong learning, behaviour, health and quality of life and empower families through family and community support. Inclusive early childhood education for children with diagnosed disabilities is provided throughout the Edmonton region in numerous preschools and childcare centres. This program is designed to offer family-oriented programing to enable parents to better support their child with specific needs.

Community Options has been a PUF provider of inclusive education solutions focusing on early intervention therapy services in Edmonton since 1977. As a successful candidate you would have the opportunity to work as a valued member of a multi-disciplinary team, planning and facilitating the needs of children on your caseload in a collaborative and respectful working environment. Your team consists of Teachers, Speech Language Pathologists, Physical Therapists and Educational Assistants providing services to children in their community program (day-care and preschool) and in the child’s home.

Job Type:           Temporary – Part time (28 hours per week) – February 1, 2021- June 16,2021

Start date:         February 1, 2021

Job Description:

  • Work in collaboration with a Multi-disciplinary team to create IPP and deliver services.
  • Consult with Educational Assistants to carry out the program in an inclusive manner via routines and structured activities.
  • Use standard and non-standard assessment tools/forms to evaluate progress and determine eligibility for funding.
  • Write reports and referral letters using computer software.
  • Adapt services to the changing needs of clients and families.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and co-operation in dealing with change.
  • Provide in-services/workshops to parents and educational assistants.

Qualifications

- Baccalaureate Degree/Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy.
- 5 or more years of pediatric experience.
- Registration with Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT) and professional liability insurance.
- Standard Child Care First Aid and CPR (to be completed by 90 days from hire date).
- Current Child Intervention and Police Record Check with vulnerable sector check (dated within 6 months of hire date).
- Champion of inclusive philosophy and must respect values of diversity and inclusivity in all its forms.
- Being adaptable, flexible, reliable, and possessing effective time management skills.
- Excellent organization and communication skills, with an ability to work well under minimal supervision.
- Comfortable with frequent kneeling and squatting for much of a shift, and occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
- In occasional circumstances, must have the ability to run to ensure child’s safety.
- Able to wear Personal Protective Equipment for all visits and program health and safety needs.
- Have a reliable vehicle for site visits, valid driver’s license, and vehicle insurance. (Travel from site to site is reimbursed at $0.50/km)
- In addition to weekdays, there may be occasional evening or weekend shifts for Community Options fundraising events, professional development, or staff meetings.
- During office work, there may be periods of prolonged sitting and exposure to a computer screen and performing repetitive movements.
- Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively with clients, families and members of the multi- disciplinary team.
