Are you an Occupational Therapy (OT) practitioner or student who wants education, support, and
mentorship for clinical practice on the journey of becoming an anti-racist practitioner? Are you an OT
educator or researcher who cares about social justice and wants to learn more?
As OTs, we work and are educated in systems that are not addressing our need to become more socially
accountable practitioners. Our current Occupational Therapy education and clinical practice spaces
support a perspective that upholds systems of oppression (white, hetero, classist, ableist, etc.) There are
many OTs beginning to question how and if we fit into typical work and school spaces and how our
practice, education, and research could be more appropriate and applicable to ALL the clients and
communities we serve.
It wasn’t until I started speaking up and going against the grain that I felt like I was able to find a
community in OT where I belonged. This collective was designed for those of us who may not fall into
the norms or just want to learn more about how to be a socially just OT practitioner, educator, or
researcher. We need to create new systems, such as this, in our profession and educate ourselves so we
do better.
There will be 3 tiers to the program.
Tier 1: $50 monthly membership fee. Includes self-study resources and access to the closed Facebook
community of practice group to connect with other like-minded OTs.
Tier 2: $100 monthly membership fee. Include self-study resources and access both the closed Facebook
community of practice group and pre-recorded monthly online lectures.
Tier 3: $150 monthly membership fee for June, July, August (total of $450). Includes self-study resources, closed Facebook group, access to
pre-recorded online lectures, and weekly interactive, small group zoom sessions. Tier 3 is designed for
individuals seeking mentorship and a higher level of interaction. Time commitment estimated at 90
minutes per week in addition to the self-study and pre-recorded lectures. For tier 3 seats, deadline for
the first 30 people signing up is June 30th, 2021.
The “Anti-Racist OT Collective” is an approach to continuing education that supports participants to re-engage and
reflect on content that is often complicated and emotional. It builds upon the notion of community,
which is key to feeling supported and guided through a tough and sometimes fraught process of
becoming a more self-aware, socially just OT.
Part of all proceeds will fund a scholarship for Indigenous & Black people (possibly others in need) who
are either enrolled as students in a Canadian OT program, or are in need as OT practitioners.
If there are people who cannot afford a fee (and really need this group), seats can be subsidized on a
case-by-case basis.

more information and to ask questions. The program will start June 1, 2021 (1st month is self-study and pre-recorded lectures) and end August 31, 2021.
There will also be a fall registration open.
