Implementation Series: Sensory Integration and Trauma with Julia Bantimba

Early childhood trauma can have profound effects on how we process and use sensory information later in childhood and in life. In this series of 3 workshops, we will explore the sensory integration system – what it is, what it does, and how it impacts development. Participants will learn what happens when this essential system has challenges and how to integrate sensory-based strategies into treatment in any discipline. Participants will walk away with new skills to support their clients in regulating and relating through the senses.
Each of the sessions will build on the last. We will begin with an overview of the sensory integration system and its relationship to trauma in our young clients. Participants will learn how to spot sensory challenges, when to refer to occupational therapy evaluation and how to begin thinking about sensory-based strategies. Moving forward, we will use case examples from the presenters and the group to dive deeper into the more specific ways that sensory integration challenges may impact children. Finally, participants of all disciplines will be supported in developing plans to integrate sensory-based strategies into their treatment. We hope participants come with questions, vignettes from their own work and lots of curiousity!
