DAY 1 – April 3, 2025
Mastering the MAT: A Hands-on Wheelchair and Seating Assessment Workshop
Description: This practical workshop provides a combination of foundational knowledge with hands-on assessment skills of a thorough MAT assessment from beginner to intermediate in client complexity and equipment considerations. Participants will learn about the wheelchair and seating process, how to conduct a comprehensive MAT assessment including hands-on assessment of posture and measurement of body segments and joint ranges; translation of assessment findings to equipment recommendations; and considerations for equipment set-up to support proper fit and function for each unique client.
Learning Objectives:
1) List the steps of the wheelchair and seating provision process.
2) Confidently conduct a full, thorough hands-on MAT assessment.
3) Identify client postural presentations and optimal positioning.
4) Translate assessment findings into target issues and goals.
5) Describe industry equipment parameters for equipment recommendations.

DAY 2 – April 4, 2025
Support for Every Body: Demystifying Support Surface Selection
Description: This session provides a comprehensive overview of therapeutic support surface mediums, including construction, functionality, and clinical applications. This session will equip clinicians with practical knowledge and an evidence-based systematic approach in choosing the most appropriate therapeutic surface for each unique client.
Learning Objectives:
1) List 5+ risk factors of pressure injury.
2) Define the categories of support surfaces and their features as they relate to client needs.
3) Describe the effects of pressure, friction and shear on the client’s body and how it occurs.
4) Understand surface medium features and functionality for therapeutic surface recommendations.
5) Effectively advance through a support surface selection process for mattress recommendations for clients.

About the Presenter
Markie is a clinical educator and complex mobility and seating therapist from Southern Ontario. She currently works in the community as an independent contractor and has worked in various clinical settings including long term care, transitional care, as well as inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation settings. You may recognize her from her various sessions at the Canadian Seating and Mobility Conference (CSMC) over the years, or have taken an online webinar through her company, Enablement Therapy Services. Markie strives to practice, educate, and advocate for truly client-centred care and improvement of standardized practices to ensure the most ideal outcomes and experiences for our client population.
