SAOT/COTF Continuing Education Bursary

The SAOT Continuing Education Bursary provides funding to support the occupational therapy community in Alberta to further enhance evidence-informed practice in client care by supporting engagement in education and skill development.

Bursary:

The SAOT Continuing Education Bursary is an annual grant of up to $500 to support SAOT paid members to participate in continuing education that will enable them to gain skills, knowledge, and competence to deliver excellence in direct client care. This grant can be used toward registration fees and related travel expenses for a course, workshop, or other educational session that is relevant to the applicant’s area of practice. Conferences are not eligible.

The number of awards is based on the number of completed applications received, and up to six will be awarded using the Google Random Number Generator.

Application deadline:

Up to six (6) grants may be awarded each calendar year. Applications are accepted annually between January 1 and March 31.

IMPORTANT:
The course/workshop you are applying for should take place between April 1 of this year and March 31 of the next year (12 months).

SAOT/COTF Research Grant

The SAOT/COTF Research Grant provides funding to promote the growth of the occupational therapy profession in Alberta through original research that contributes to evidence-based clinical practice.

Grant:

The SAOT/COTF Research Grant is an annual grant of up to $3,000. Successful research projects will be directly applicable to occupational therapy science and/or occupational therapy practice, and will be original and pertinent within the Alberta context.

Up to one grant will be awarded each year.

Application deadline:

The deadline for application submission is February 28 of each year. Applications are accepted annually between January 1 and February 28.

Student Clinical Placement Award

The Student Clinical Placement Award recognizes students who have demonstrated exceptional performance in the following areas: practice knowledge, clinical reasoning, communication, professional interactions, performance management and professional development. Candidates are nominated by their clinical preceptor from any placement level up until completing their final placement.

Award:

  • Letter of Recognition from the SAOT President
  • Announcement on SAOT website and in e-Bulletin
  • Certificate presented at the SAOT Annual General Meeting

Clinical Preceptor Award

The Clinical Preceptor Award recognizes outstanding performance of a clinical preceptor during any level of fieldwork placement. Candidates are nominated by students who believe that his or her clinical preceptor has exceptional clinical teaching abilities.

  • Letter of Recognition from the SAOT President
  • Announcement on SAOT website and in e-Bulletin
  • Certificate presented at the SAOT Annual General Meeting

Gail Gilewich Clinical Practice Award

The Gail Gilewich Clinical Practice Award recognizes an occupational therapist who has demonstrated significant achievements in the area of clinical practice in occupational therapy.

  • Certificate presented at the SAOT Annual General Meeting

Sharon Brintnell Lifetime Achievement Award

The Sharon Brintnell Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an occupational therapist who has made significant lifelong contributions to the profession of occupational therapy in Alberta. These contributions can be clinical, administrative, teaching, research, community development, policy development and/or voluntary work.

Award:

  • Recognition Award
  • Announcement on SAOT website and in e-Bulletin
  • Recognition at the annual SAOT AGM

Citation Award

This award is a national and provincial collaboration between the Society of Alberta Occupational Therapists (SAOT) and the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) that acknowledges the contribution/accomplishment to the health and well-being of Albertans of an agency, program or individual within the province and who is not an occupational therapist.

The SAOT Board of Directors can nominate up to two organizations for Citation Awards and forwards the nominations to CAOT. We welcome suggestions or nominations from SAOT members.

Award:

  • Framed Certificate of Recognition provided by CAOT and signed by the presidents of SAOT and CAOT
  • Announcement on SAOT website and in e-Bulletin
